Old Reynolds Mansion, Asheville, North Carolina
The Old Reynolds Mansion is a majestic historic home, sitting on a knoll of Reynolds Mountain. It is one of very few brick houses predating the Civil War remaining in Asheville and most definitely the largest. It has a commanding view of the mountains from the rooms and the two story verandahs. A cottage suite overlooking the pool offers a very private romantic retreat. With four acres of grounds and verandahs covering 4,000 square feet, guests can find a quiet spot to enjoy the gardens, the pool, and the view, do some bird watching or enjoy a favorite book in a rocking chair or by a wood-burning fireplace.
In this fast, ever-changing world, it is comforting to spend a night in a house that exudes a feeling of permanence of generations past and generations to come. Innkeepers Fred & Helen Faber bought the mansion in 1977 in a sad state of disrepair. They restored it to its former glory, filled it with antiques and have been greeting guests since 1982. Their son, wife and daughter have joined them in the business, so the tradition lives on.
