Il Leccio, Torri in Sabina, Italy
The countryside surrounding Rome has surprisingly few agritourism accommodations, even though attractions of cultural interest are many, so Il Leccio, which offers the peace and quiet of a country home an hour away from the city, is a real find. Cristina and Giuliano, from Rome, carry on their careers as journalist (agriculture and botany) and lawyer besides offering accommodation for guests in one of the two stone houses on their countryside property. The identically sized apartments, one on each floor, include a living room (one with fireplace) with corner kitchen, double bedroom, and bathroom, pleasantly decorated in country style. Both have lovely views over the hilly countryside and although meals are not regularly offered, dinner can be arranged upon request and served under the 300-year-old holm oak, which lends its name to the place. The gracious hosts are happy to suggest local itineraries and also to organize tours of historical private gardens and palazzos.
