When the Nevada Northern Railway reached the copper camps of eastern Nevada in 1906, promoters created Ely City as a planned commercial & residential district near the depot. Steptoe Valley Inn was built originally in 1907 as a grocery store with rooms upstairs for railroad workers. The building was eventually converted to apartments & a private residence. In 1990 it was remodeled into the Steptoe Valley Inn with romantic rooms filled with lace curtains & hearts.
