innkeeping: Orangewood, Alice Springs Bed & Breakfast

 Greetings,
Orangewood is a traditional B&B Inn offering quality accommodation in
Alice
Springs, Central Australia. We established Orangewood following a visit to
the western half of the United States and Canada in 1995 where we stayed
almost exclusively in B&Bs and loved it. Our kids have left home to
discover
the real world out there (God bless 'em) and we were left to rattle round
this old house with each other as company. With Lynne's extensive
experience in tourism B&B seemed like the way to breath some new life into
these bricks, and here we are and loving it. We have three bedrooms, all
with ensuite, with a cottage coming on-line in the next month. Orangewood
derives from the grove of citrus in the back garden surrounding the
swimming
pool. Lynne's the cook (but I have been known to poach eggs for New
Yorkers
{they were very polite!}), we share the bathroom cleaning when I'm home,
and I'm a doctor with the Royal Flying Doctor Service based at Ayers Rock.
You've all heard of Ayers Rock, of course. I also make furniture for the
B&B, referred to as "family pieces" in the brochure to distinguish mine
from
the real antiques. We cater almost exclusively for the international
market
and most of our guests come to us from ths United States. Alice Springs is
regarded as the last frontier, the center of the vast and lonely
Australian
Outback, but its really a very sophisticated town now, and very much
geared
to the tourist. 25000 residents with 4-6000 tourists on any day.
Accommodation available from 4 star downwards (we rate 4 star!), a casino
and lots of quality restaurants and interesting nightspots. The arts are
well catered for with a particular emphasis on Aboriginal art and culture
(
some of the locals hang in those famous galleries in New York) and sport
is
a religion here, with a first class golf course and we can introduce the
visitor to Aussie Rules Football, the game they will soon play in heaven
(and California and NewYork(?)). And the scenery _ you haven't lived 'till
you've spent a night in a swag under our stars. The Red Centre is an
unforgetable experience. We fell in love with it 30 years ago and we're
still here. And there's every means available to see it, from camel trek
to
Boeing 737; 4WD to balloon. Eco tourism the in thing, and they do it well,
but after that you need Orangewwod to unwind.
There's lots more if you wind me up, but enough for now. You asked for it!
Best wishes to all.
