First, what "system" are you referring to?  whom HAVE you contacted?

We are historic because 1) we are old (98 years), and, because we are over
50 years old and significant in various other ways, we are on the State 
and
National Registers.  

If your building is over 50 years old, and you want the official status,
you could contact your state's historic preservation office (in Hawaii it
falls under the State Dept. of Land and Natural Resources), or contact the
National Trust for Historic Preservation in Washington, DC, or the Dept./
of the Interior.
