Re: innkeeping: alcohol license

I am not sure if you are inquring about the legal or the social, so I will
give my thoughts on both.

We do not serve any meal other than breakfast, but do make wine
available to
guests. Since opening the inn in 1992, I have tried several approaches,
and
have found that putting a small refrigerator in the upstairs foyer filled
with various soft drinks and a container of wine (the kind with the
spiget),
with a coffe/tea bar beside it works best. We we are located in the
downtown
historic district of a popular tourist city and our guests are away from
the
inn most of the day sightseeing. They enjoy being able to have something
to
drink at their leisure and especially after they are ready for bed after a
long day of sightseeing.

Technically, we are not suppose to serve alcoholic beverages since we do
not
have a permit, but most all of the inns in our area do serve wine or
beer in
some sort of fashion to their guests. There has never been any suggestion
that the state alcoholic beverage commission had even a hint of interest.
