This is a related issue. Yesterday, I attended a meeting of our local organization held at the B&B of one of the members. To say that I was stunned is putting it mildly. The B&B - probably about the same age as mine , over 125 years old - was in deplorable condition. The first thing that greets your eyes as you park is a collapsed barn off to the side. The entrance is not clearly marked, the landscaping is aleatory and ragged but the inside is the kicker. It is filthy, cluttered, shabby. The kitchen is unspeakable. I didn't know what to say. As the fairly new president of the group (I left the room at an inopportune moment and got elected, I think) I had coincidentally put a discussion of standards on the agenda for the meeting. This owner immediately said that she was not interested in having standards imposed or observed. Obviously! The rest of the membership was silent - 6 other owners. Now what? We went on to other agenda items but I am really concerned. My B&B is linked with hers in our joint brochure; we are supposed to refer to each other - we have a rotating system - and I cannot possibly send anyone there. Furthermore, I don't think she should be serving food to people. She has been doing it for years, so probably everybody thinks she's an institution. But it was clear from the dynamics of the meeting that it wasn't going to be addressed. Helllp? All suggestions gratefully received.
