Many products produced years ago, including acoustic tile, contained asbestos fibers. I've seen some construction projects where asbestos was discovered during the demolition and/or remodeling phases, resulting in delays and costly removal of the asbestos-bearing material(s). It would be good to treat the existing ceiling as if it did contain asbestos because old acoustic fiber products tend to deteriorate over time and release microscopic fibers when they are disturbed. Perhaps there is a method of sealing the existing tiles prior to doing the new work. :) Bob Weinman The Ashwood http://www.moriah.com/ashwood --- The Ashwood ashwood@proaxis.com
