San Francisco California Bed and Breakfast near Japanese Tea Gardens
The Victorian Inn on the Park was built in 1897, Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee year, and is reflective of 19th-century elegance inside and out. The exterior is Queen Anne with some very unique embellishments, such as the open belvedere turret which is octagonal, with a curved roof and large wooden finial. The warm, rich interior of the house also has many Victorian features such as a large parlor, oak-paneled dining room, spacious halls with mahogany paneling, and inlaid oak floors of different designs. After a colorful succession of occupants, it was renovated by the present owners in 1980. Salvage yards were scrounged to find matching trims, marble and moldings. Bruce Bradbury, the craftsman who revived 19th-century art wallpapers, reproduced original designs of William Morris specifically for the inn. Many of the 12 guest rooms, with private baths, have either clawfoot or sunken tubs. All have down comforters and beautiful ornate antique lamps. Guests in the Belvedere Suite can sit out on a private balcony in the turret and enjoy a view of the city and trees in Golden Gate Park across the street.
In the evening guests gather in the sitting room or library to socialize or enjoy a glass of wine. Breakfast in the elegant dining room features seasoned fruits, homebaked breads and muffins, and freshly squeezed orange juice. The innkeepers are always happy to help you obtain theatre tickets or restaurant reservations, chauffeured limousines or tours. The location is central to most of San Francisco. Civic Center and downtown are just minutes away. It is a lovely walk through Golden Gate Park to the Arboretum, DeYoung Museum, Japanese Tea Garden or the Hall of Flowers.
