Visiting Cole House is like stepping back in history a hundred years. The 1883 Second Empire mansion, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was the home of Cole Porter's grandfather. Period furnishings are scattered throughout the home. Cole House is renowned for its many special features. Exotic hardwoods were used extensively in the home. All downstairs rooms have intricate parquet floors, each with its own unique design. Four magnificent fireplaces and huge pocket doors grace the main floor. Beautiful chandeliers and ornamental plaster ceilings complete the decor. Four large bedrooms are available for guests, each with its own private bath, cable TV, and air conditioning. The Old Fashioned Garden has two queen sized beds and a unique antique bottom filling bath tub. The Rose of Indiana has an antique walnut double bed, claw foot tub with shower, and a stained glass window. Kate's Cove has a queen size sleigh bed and an antique claw foot tub with shower. The J.O. Cole Suite has an antique double bed, unique built-in cedar closets, and a private sitting room. Room rates of $50 to $75 include a full breakfast. Cole House is also available for weddings, receptions, showers, parties, luncheons, and business meetings.
