The Inn by the Sea, the only B&B in the area is gracious and nostalgic, charming and gentle, cozy and casual. Built in 1937, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The wooden cove siding and tin roof create a quaint facade, opening into a haven of stenciled walls, floral prints and wood, brass and iron beds. The guest rooms are named after the barrier islands: Gasparilla, Captiva, Sanibel, Useppa, Keewaydin and Bakeelia. Each is cool and refreshing, vibrant and soothing -- all with lazely turning paddle fans. The Inn boasts local artwork representing seascapes, beach scenes, conch houses and native birds and shells. The art outdoors is just as impressive -- coconut palms, white birds of paradise and bougainvillea grace the grounds. The guests of the Inn feel like they're visiting a substantial old beach house.
