Raintree Inn is a stately Classic Revival home built in 1899 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been meticulously restored to its former grandeur and now features ornate Victorian wallpapers and antiques. The turn of the century craftsmanship evident throughout the home has been painstakingly preserved without sacrificing any of the modern comforts appreciated by today's discerning traveler. The utopian community of New Harmony has been called the "epicenter" of communitarianism. New Harmony was the site of two of the most significant religious and social experimental communities in the United States. From 1814 when the Harmonists, a religious group led by George Rapp, settled in New Harmony, through 1824 when wealthy Scottish industrialist Robert Owen sought to establish a model social community, the town became a religious, cultural and social center. This tranquil community is still known for achievements in the arts, architecture, education and science.
