Great River Bed And Breakfast, Stockholm, Wisconsin

The Great River B&B offers a unique lodging experience: we have one "room" which is really the entire house. Our cottage offers a private and intimate alternative to accomodations available at other area B&B's, inns, or hotels. Stockholm, Wisconsin, is a very small Mississippi River town (population: 89) that is near the Wisconsin towns of Maiden Rock and Pepin and is also near the Minnesota town of Red Wing. We are only ninety minutes from Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.

The property is a pioneer Swedish stone cottage built in 1869 by the co-founder of the village of Stockholm, WI having first lived in a log cabin on the property starting in 1854. From our large screen porch we offer peace and solitude on 45 acres of lawn, woods and fields over looking Lake Pepin (Mississippi River). All rooms are beautifully but simply furnished with antiques, period pieces and artwork. The emphasis here is on low-key relaxation--walking, biking, bird watching (including one of the country's largest eagle populations) or reading.

Stockholm is a picturesque river village (pop. 89) in an area of great scenic beauty. Driving time is about one and one-half-hours south of Minneapolis and St. Paul. There are a number of artists and crafts persons working and living in the area and the interesting shops in Stockholm and nearby Pepin reflect this heritage. Pepin is also the birthplace of acclaimed author Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Our immediate neighbor is beautiful Stockholm Gardens & Nursery. A professional summer stock theatre company, the Lake Pepin Players, has a full- schedule of plays June thru October.

Shiatsu massage is available at the B&B from a certified practitioner.

Great River Roasters offers a full-service coffee bar. A number of places with excellent food are available for your evening meal including the well-known and respected Harbor View Cafe ten minutes from our property and the Staghead Cafe in Red Wing, MN. In the morning we return to serve either a full or lighter breakfast as desired.
