Originally built as the Meekins family home, this turn-of-the-century Roanoke Island residence has been welcoming guests since 1898. The original house was a one-and-a-half story woodframe structure. As the family prospered, Rosa Meekins had her husband, Theodore, build an addition similar to a photograph she had seen of a Queen Anne-style Victorian house. By 1910 the home was completed as it has stood for the following eight decades.




As one of the most photographed homes on the island, guests have for years admired its beautiful architectural details and fancied a brief stay in this lovely old home. In 1994 the house underwent renovation in the Queen Anne-style sympathetic to its uniqueness and became The White Doe Inn. Newly decorated rooms have private baths (several with 2-person whirlpools), bedside fireplaces, and luxurious linens. An entry foyer, parlor, study and dining room are lighted with exquisite chandeliers, adding a comfortable elegance to a leisurely and casual atmosphere. The wraparound porch provides the perfect place from which to enjoy quiet breezes, easy conversation or plan your days activities. You will love the timeless Victorian comfort that allows our guests to relax, refresh, and recharge their energies. A delicious Southern-style breakfast is served in the dining room every morning and afternoon refreshments welcome guests back from a busy day of experiencing the many pleasures along the Outer Banks.
