Cloghaun, Mackinac Island, Michigan
Mackinac Island Michigan Bed and Breakfast near Arch Rock
Cloghaun (pronounced CLAH HAUN) is Gaelic and means "stony ground." Cloghaun was a little town in County Galway, Ireland, which Thomas and Bridget Donnelly left in 1848, the year of the great famine. They came to Mackinac Island where a relative, Charles O'Malley, was already a prosperous trader and hotel owner (The Island House). They purchased a large tract of land in 1852, and in 1884 the Cloghaun was built to house their large Irish family. This lovely Victorian furnished home has been preserved by descendants of Thomas and Bridget and represents the elegance and ambiance of a bygone era.
The quiet pace of Mackinac Island, with no cars or motor vehicles, provides a restfull interlude from everyday life. Each guestroom is individually decorated with antiques from the late 1800's and evokes a feeling of casual elegance. Ideally located on Market Street and close to shops and restaurants, and one block from ferry lines. Experience your dream getaway at Cloghaun.
