This secluded Tyrolean chalet was hand-built by George & Irene Balschneider from Vermont wood and stone to recall the beautiful architecture of their homeland. The inn is open year around. Each of the Grunberg Haus's romantic guestrooms is warmly furnished with comforters, quilts and antiques. All rooms open onto a carved wood balcony. A large stone fireplace in the living room and a wood stove in the self-serve pub/game room are favorite gathering places. In cold weather, guests can snuggle in front of the fire and roast marshmallows. From late May to October, there are three cabins available in the forest uphill from the inn. Every season offers postcard views of mountains, valleys, covered bridges, country roads, waterfalls, and vast forests. There are outdoor activities and local attractions such as Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory, Cold Hollow Cider Mill, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Cabot Cheese, VT Teddy Bear factory, and Green Mountain Chocolate Company. The inn is located mid-way between Stowe and Warren (Sugarbush, Mad River Glen) - about 12 to 14 miles away. Also nearby are Bolton resort (10 miles), the State Capitol in Montpelier (15 miles) and Burlington on Lake Champlain (25 miles).
