Well before Taos became known for its art colony, world renown ski area and an outdoor recreational destination, the Taos Pueblo (a World Heritage Site) was home to Native Americans who had continually occupied their village for some one thousand years.
The area had gained its original reputation as a trading place for local and plains Indians. Later Hispanic and European settlers added became part of rich diversity.
The turn of the 20th Century found the town and region attracting artists who were drawn to the beauty of the light and captivating vistas of the land. Today, artists continue the tradition filling the local galleries with their vision.
