Philo California Bed and Breakfast near Hendy Woods State Park
Located in the Anderson Valley in Mendocino County, the inn was built in 1888 entirely of redwood and was once a stagecoach stop on the way to the north coast. The guest rooms are furnished with comfortable antiques and the beds are covered with patchwork quilts and cozy down comforters. The living room is open for the guests to enjoy the warmth of the woodstove and browse through the inn's library and magazines. A large collection of jigsaw puzzles will help you pass a pleasant afternoon or evening. In the morning a lavish, full breakfast is served in the dining room and features a variety of hearty entrees, homemade granola or muesli, freshly baked muffins and scones and local juices. Complimentary sherry and homemade cookies are always available.
From the willow furniture on the front porch, guests can relax and enjoy the lovely English garden filled with many varieties of flowers and plants. Bicycle enthusiasts can explore miles of mountain bike trails or a challenging loop to the coast and back. A hike among the redwoods at Hendy Woods State Park should be a definite stop during a visit to the Anderson Valley.
Known for outstanding wines and champagnes, the Anderson Valley tasting rooms are small and personable where visitors may have a chance to talk with the winemaker or take a winery tour. A drive to the spectacular Mendocino coast is only 30 minutes away where you can walk the beach or browse the unique shops and galleries. For lunch or dinner there are many outstanding local and coastal restaurants to choose from.
