Carriage Inn, Charles Town, West Virginia
Colonel Charles Washington, younger brother of George Washington, established Charles Town, home of The Carriage Inn, in 1786. The Inn, built in 1836, is a grand colonial home located in the historic district on a shady acre. Generals Ulysses S. Grant and Philip Sheridan met in the "East Parlor" in 1864 to plan the Shenandoah Valley Campaign. The Rose Room once harbored General "Stonewall" Jackson's battle flag. The Inn is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
Guests can swing on an inviting porch or relax under large shade trees. Early risers may see spectacular sunrises in the Blue Ridge Mountain foothills. Each of the six bedrooms is large and airy, with private bath and queen-size beds. Enjoy a hot full multi-course breakfast each morning in the former "East Parlor." Most guest rooms have working fireplaces as does the West Parlor. Discover the Civil War mementos displayed in the West Parlor or share our books and games.
Walk to Charles Town fine restaurants, enjoy horse and auto racing, antiquing, white water rafting, hiking or live theatre within minutes of our front door.
