Maplewood Inn, Fairfield, Pennsylvania

Comfortable furnishings, glowing fireplaces, flower and herb gardens await our guests. Innkeepers Marilyn and Bob Henderson invite you to stay in our relaxed, easy-going home.
Early Scotch-Irish poineers settled in Fairfield (then known as Millerstown) in the mid 1700's. The town's named changed around 1800. The Civil War's early years affected Fairfield with Confederate soldiers raiding local farms to gather horses for the Northern Virginia Army. Following the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863, tens of thousands of Confederate soldiers and Union prisoners proceeded through Fairfield on their retreat to Northern Virginia. The thousands of hungry soldiers were fed by the local people and the wounded cared for in many homes and local churches. On July 3, 1863, the 6th U.S. Cavalry commanded by Major Samuel Starr and the 6th Virginia Cavalry commanded by Colonel Flourney were involved in a skirmish at the Marshall Farms about two miles north of town towards Orrtanna. Major Samuel Starr and other officers were wounded and ultimately were cared for in (what is now) the Maplewood Inn.
