Grand Oaks Manor, Athens, Georgia
Athens Georgia Bed and Breakfast near University of Georgia
Slip quietly back in time to the spirit and splendor of the Old South in this elegant Antebellum Georgia home. Experience the awe and grandeur as you walk among the shadows of that bygone era rippling through the 34 acres of the natural wooded setting. This Antebellum home with its rich history stands alone as a place of distinctive and elegant lodging in Athens. Originally built in 1820 as the Gumsprings Inn serving farmers transporting cotton to market on the 1805 Federal Road, it later became a stagecoach stop. In 1947 a new structure was built over the original building. In 1994 a complete refurbishing and remodeling was completed. In 2000 Celeste and Harry Neely purchased the Inn and have completely remodelled and refashioned the entire facility. Features king and queen sized beds fitted with high count linens, all private baths, cable television, telephones, rocking chair verandah, central air and heat, ceiling fans. Beautiful setting on 34 rolling and wooded acres; quiet, and rural in feeling, yet only 5 miles from downtown Athens and the University of Georgia. Truly a park-like sanctuary loaded with wildlife, pecan and oak trees, and other varieties of plants. Enjoy a delightful stroll along the lovely nature walks past the natural springs and the secluded lake.To maximize your experience and privacy, we host adult guests only and limit the use of the inn to overnight guests.
