Dear InnSite Guest,
Hello from River Mist Bed and Breakfast, nestled in the historic village of Bellows Falls, in southern Vermont's beautiful Connecticut River
Leave your worries and concerns behind as you walk
through the front door of our beautiful 1895
Victorian, and enter into the luxury and splendor of a
bygone era when people took time to enjoy all the
finest that life had to offer. Set back from the main
roads, you'll find an atmosphere of quiet solitude.
The original rich wood mouldings, hardwood floors, pocket doors, hand-carved fireplace and
ornate turned post staircase are features that will greet you, inviting you in to enjoy the
decadent architectural beauty of the River Mist, so aptly named after the magical mist that
rises off the Connecticut River, within walking distance of the house. Antiques fill the house
and add to the ambiance of grandeur.
You'll step back in time as you lie in a comfortable room with a queen size bed and your
own private bath. You may care to relax on the spacious wrap-around porch, where you will
enjoy a lovely view of Burt Street, "the most beautiful street in Bellows Falls". You see,
Bellows Falls in an entire Victorian Village, so along with our house you will have many
others to admire as well! Take a walking tour and marvel at some of the spectacular
Victorians built by the wealthy elite of the Railroad and Paper industries. The Village boasts a
rich history which you can explore by roaming the town, including the first man-made canal
in America, an exhibit in the local library to Hetty Green, "the richest woman in the world"
(and some say the meanest!) who chose to make her home here, as well as an original old grist
mill, railroad station offering scenic train tours of the Connecticut River Valley, and the old
factories still standing which produced the first paper made from wood rather than cloth rags!
And there's plenty of antiquing, Art Galleries, shopping, biking and hiking trails, and great
restaurants too! It's no wonder these wealthy settlers chose this picturesque spot to build their
architectural gems - Vermont is referred to by many as "God's Country", and it is truly
beautiful in each of the four seasons throughout the year. And of course Vermont has the most
vibrant and beautiful fall foliage of any other New England state!
To start your day off right, we offer a full gourmet breakfast that is unsurpassed! Here at
the River Mist, we don't believe in "continental breakfasts"! And we don't believe in
allowing our guests to leave the breakfast table hungry either. So we get up very early to start
preparing a large, delicious and satisfying breakfast, with an array of different entrees served
every day. You may want to extend your stay so you can try them all!
But however long your stay, we will strive to make your experience at the River Mist a
pleasant one you will never forget.
