La Casa De Espíritus Alegres B&B, Guanajuato, Mexico
Built in the 1600s for processing the silver ore brought down by mules from the mines in the mountains above, the House of Good Spirits has been transformed into a colorful and welcoming B&B, a veritable feast for the eyes and senses, now named one of Mexico's Best Inns by both Frommer's and Fodor's guides. It houses an outstanding folk art collection from every state in Mexico.
In the garden a colorful tent from Rajasthan, India offers an open bar and a place to relax and chat with fellow guests. Full delicious and artistic breakfasts are served on a glass enclosed terrace overlooking the garden. Every room has a fireplace, a patio or balcony, and a private bath lavishly decorated with hand painted tiles.
Guanajuato, considered to be the jewel of the colonial cities of Mexico, offers museums and cafes, mariachis, troubadors and symphony concerts. Built in a sunlit canyon of Mexico's Central Highlands, it is a city full of winding narrow streets and garden plazas with ancient fountains, hot colors and soft pastels, laced with tunnels and underground passageways.
