The pearl of North Carolina's colonial capital, an imposing white structure near the magical confluence of two wide rivers replete with well-manicured marinas, The Harvey Mansion at 200 years is the last remaining structure that speaks of the prominence of the town as a seaport at the turn of the 18th century. Revitalized New Bern is now a charming surprise of art and antique shops, state historic sites, and renovated homes of a diverse architectural and period mix. Now an historic inn with a AAA 3-diamond rated restaurant owned by a Swiss chef, the mansion has six individual dining rooms with 11 1/2 foot ceilings with hand-carved crown moldings, ornate mantels over decorative fireplaces, and it functions as an art gallery. The cellar, originally the kitchen with fireplace andirons still in place, is now an exposed-beam pub with a casual menu, cigars,televisions, and English dart boards. The Captain's Quarters on the third floor offers 3 rooms with private baths, one in-chamber, and extra plush mattresses. For business travellers, rooms include private phone lines with message service and large desk and computer spaces in well-lit rooms.
