Rivercene was constructed between 1864 and 1869 by Joseph B. Kinney and is the earliest example of Second Empire of Baroque Revival this far west. Captain Kinney ran a line of 21 sternwheelers up and down the Missouri River.
"With its nine marble fireplaces imported form Italy and fine walnut millwork done by artisans in St. Louis, Rivercene has survived flood after flood, attribute to Kinney's knowledge of the river and its architect's foresight in building it upon a pyramidal, floating foundation ...." (Kansas City Star, 2/29/1977)
Take a walk back in time and stay in one on the nine rooms, decorating in period style, furnished with queen-sized beds and having private baths. Rest in front of the fireplace or recline on one to the three porches. Rise refreshed as the smell of breakfast awakens you.
