In 1690, the King of England gave Dr. Cox 1,000 acres for loyalty to the crown. In 1695, Dr. Cox gave Shamgar Hand 600 acres. A few years later Shamgar, to be considered "gentry", acquired another 400 acres and passed the land grant down through his family until it was inherited by the daughter of Daniel & Hetty Hand, Danielia. Her marriage to Dr. John Wiley and the subsequent building of this house in 1854, brings us to the beginnings of what is now known as The Doctors Inn at Kings Grant.
