Hacienda Antigua B&B, Albuquerque, New Mexico

This 200 year old authentic Spanish hacienda with its peaceful, sun-splashed courtyard takes you back in time to days when the family of Don Pablo Yrisarri were Spanish Colonists overseeing large ranch holdings near Albuquerque. They also worked as prominent traders on the El Camino Real between Santa Fe and Mexico City. Legends of gold hidden in the 20-30 inch walls speak of a mysterious past, but the real history is in the traditinal walls enclosing the courtyard, walls made of terrones (80 pound mud bricks)dug from the nearby banks of the Rio Grande. In its prime, the Hacienda had 28-30 rooms in a square figure eight pattern that enclosed two courtyards or placitas. Artifacts from the Hacienda are displayed periodically by the Museum of New Mexico in Santa Fe. Today five of the twelve original rooms remaining welcome Bed & Breakfast guests and offer an experience of the past complete with kiva fireplaces. Furnished in antiques, the inn offers a hearty breakfast, swimming pool, courtyard, gardens, hot tub and a central location to events and activities in Albuquerque. The innkeepers' exceptional hospitality will make you feel at home and will advise you on the best dining and sightseeing in New Mexico.
