They built the Hacienda along the original El Camino Real trail between Mexico and Santa Fe. During the Civil War, the hacienda is said to have been a storehouse for Church gold. Descendants of two of the original families (Elena Gallegos & Jose Montoya) finally sold the adobe hacienda in 1993 and it has been a B & B since October of 1993. The Inn's six rooms reflect Southwestern architecture and furnishings. The ceilings are wood, and the floors are tile/stone and brick. Many furnishings are handmade, and original artwork decorates the hacienda. The innkeepers' private quarters are adjacent to the hacienda. In the summer, breakfast is served on the porch looking at the coutyard placitas or in the long dining room in the winter. Breakfast consists of Southwestern flavors. Enjoy the splendor of New Mexico sunrises and sunsets on the Sandia from the front yard. You can jog/walk or bike along the canal near the Inn, or just sit in a comfortable chair in the courtyard and watch the hummingbirds. Nearby attractions include The Petroglyphs, Pueblo ruins, great restaurants and shopping on the Plazas of Albuquerque and Santa Fe. The innkeepers can steer you to five wonderful day trips. La Hacienda Grande accomodates business meetings, retreats, weddings/receptions, family reunions and parties.
