Casa De Las Chimeneas, Taos, New Mexico
Casa de las Chimeneas translates to the House of Chimneys, and yes, every guest room has at least one Pueblo-style
kiva fireplace. The golden warmth and crackle of the Indian designed hearths cast a romantic and welcoming feeling to each room.
Casa de las Chimeneas could easily be renamed
Casa de los Jardines - House of the Gardens. A large formal garden, framed by the inn's seven foot walls and a raised brick terrace, brims over with
fiesta colors -- fiery orange perennial lilies against the royal purple flower stocks of Canterbury Bells or pink peonies set next to iris and white daisies. A more intimate English-style cottage garden is planted with flowers, vegetables, roses and berries.
Rose Blaze covers a trellis leading to two hidden chairs beneath a vine-covered arbor. Tall corn and sunflowers reach the the turquoise New Mexico sky. Luscious raspberries form the basis for homemade tarts.
Casa de las Chimeneas could also be called
Casa de las Cocineras - House of the Cooks - as food is given top priority here. Mornings offer Southwest specialties such as
Huevos Rancheros or Breakfast
Enchiladas. Afternoons tempt with winter's hearty soups and stews or summer's cool dips and sweet berry tarts.
