Gregory House Country InnRt 43 Box 401Averill Park, New York 12018 United States 518-674-3774 FAX: 518-674-8916 gregoryhse@aol.com http://members.aol.com/gregoryhse Rate this Inn Around the turn of the century, the many natural lakes and softly rolling hills of the Sand Lake, Averill Park area of upstate New York provided a perfect setting for the popular resort area it would become. Elegant small hotels with Victorian appointed dining rooms catered to the days' carriage trade from nearby Albany & Troy and New York City as well. A well kept golf course and an old fashioned amusement park with its carousel appealed to young and old alike. A lively night life with New York City entertainment flourished along with the entire area. The village is quieter now. The lakes and rolling hills are still as beautiful as ever. The golf course is still there, but the area has settled into a peaceful, tranquil suburb of Albany and Troy. I the midst of this tranquillity, you'll now find the Gregory House Country Inn & Restaurant, built as a private residence in 1830 by financier Elias Gregory, and home of the Jewell family since 1964. In 1976 the Jewells transformed their home into an intimate fine-dining restaurant and later expanded it into a twelve room, full fledged country inn. The Gregory House's comfortable rooms, hearty steaks and succulent wines, summer pool and winter fireplaces not only maintains but enhances the long tradition of hospitality in the Sand Lake area.
