Applebutter Inn, Woodstock, Vermont
Built in 1854 by Civil War Captain Edwin C. Emmons, this elegant converted farmhouse is the epitome of grace and comfort. There are six gorgeous air-conditioned rooms (some with fireplaces, too) to fit any budget.
You can take a leisurely stroll up Happy Valley Road, or through the Covered Bridge, and along the Ottaquechee River. If antiquing is "your thing," you'll probably need more than a day to visit all the nearby shops. You can peruse Woodstock's art galleries, play a round of golf or even swim in Silver Lake. When you return, you can play the Mason & Hamlin piano, relax by the fireplace and read, or take your tea and cookies to the porch and relax as you watch the hummingbirds flit amongst the flowers.
And as you depart, you'll be planning your return visit to Applebutter Inn.
