Charles Hovey House, Gloucester, Massachusetts
Gloucester Massachusetts Bed and Breakfast near Antique Alley
In 1845 Charles Hovey,a wealthy merchant, purchased a high bluff overlooking Gloucester Harbor and proceeded to erect an elegant Tuscan villa. The similarities between Cape Ann and Tuscany had inspired Mr. Hovey. Besides the same latitude they share extraordinary natural beauty, a climate tempered by ocean currents and the glowing peachy-amber light that creates a Mecca for artists. Mr. Hovey's glorious Italianate manor is now a Bed & Breakfast. We invite you to come and revel in his vision.
And quite a wonderful vision it is. Across Hovey House's panoramic view of the harbor, boats of every description glide like swans as guests sip breakfast coffee on the awning covered verandah.
Within, the accommodations are spacious and welcoming. Beautifully restored bedrooms boast period furnishings, original artwork, cozy sitting areas and exceptional antique beds. Some have working fireplaces.
