Coach House at Greta BridgeGreta BridgeBarnard Castle DL12 9SD United Kingdom 44(0)1833 627201 info@coachhousegreta.co.uk http://www.coachhousegreta.co.uk (Calculated from a total of 5 ratings) Rate this Inn Welcome to The Coach House, one of the premier guesthouses in the picturesque rural setting of Greta Bridge, County Durham, and part of the original C17th George Coaching Inn which, for the past one hundred and fifty years, has been a private house within its own landscape. The River Greta with its Brignal Banks, painted by artists John Sell Cotman and J. M. W. Turner, runs along the western boundary of the estate, where guests may fish for brown trout. For the holidaymaker, or traveller, the house is in striking distance of the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors, Hadrian's Wall and so many other historic and natural beauty spots. Barnard Castle offers several antique shops and, of course, the Bowes Museum. Charles Dickens is thought to have stayed the night at The George (original C17th name of house) on his way to Bowes, where he wrote Nicholas Nickleby. Sir Walter Scott stayed at neighbouring Rokeby Hall, which is open to visitors during the summer. For Horse Racing, race-goers can enjoy several good flat and jump meetings in the area throughout the year, including York, Ripon, Catterick, Sedgefield and Newcastle. The area is also blessed with many golf courses.
