Serenity B&B was constructed in 1904 and is typical of Prairie-style, somewhat Mission-style homes. In 2000, the entire facility underwent a $200,000 make-over, updating all bath and living amenities, while maintaining the old feel of the mansion. Original maple and pine hardwood floors were refinished. Amenities added include: whirlpools, dry sauna, steam shower, high-speed wireless internet, ceiling fans in all guest rooms and central air, to name a few. Rooms in Serenity are large and open with heavy solid oak (unpainted) trim throughout (doors, ceiling moldings, windows, stairs, baseboards). Door hardware and light fixtures are 1900-period reproductions. Serenity is situated in the historic Delano District of Wichita. What is now the Delano District, was once the City of Delano, a thriving community from the 1850s to the 1890s on the outskirts of Wichita, named after Columbus Delano who was Secretary of the Interior under President Ulysses S. Grant. The Delano district’s colorful past once included gunslingers and saloon girls. A number of properties nearby (within walking distance) are listed on the National Register of Historic Places including the fabulous Friends University Administration Building, constructed in part by W.H. Sternberg - Wichita's most prolific builder back in the 1870s and 1880s when Wichita was the fastest growing city in the country. Serenity B&B is 6,600 beautifully finished sq. ft. and can accommodate any guest need.
