See for yourself why The Creole Estate Bed & Breakfast is “Creole Perfection in Acadiana.” The Soulier House is a South Louisiana landmark built at the turn-of-the twentieth century and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is significant for its superior display of Queen Anne Revival architecture and features fine Eastlake detailing. In true Queen Anne Revival style, it is adorned with a wrap-around gallery and textured surfaces such as the decoratively-cut bargeboard outlining the front gable. The estate’s complex massing—one of its most important features—is created by an asymmetrical floor plan and cross gable roof, the presence of chimneys piercing that roof, and the presence of a conical roof capped by a finial at the corner of the gallery. The roof suggests a turret, one of the hallmarks of this architectural style. The Eastlake décor’, found primarily on the gallery, consists of turned columns and an elaborate combination of elements outlining the gallery’s roofline. Some of these features include a spindle-work screen with short abacus-like rods and a scalloped band. Knobs and pierced brackets are present. A large front window combines elements of the Colonial Revival and Queen Anne styles and an Italianate door serving as aside entrance. An interior view invites updated living and dining areas and luxurious ensuites, all rooms complemented by hardwood floors.
