Mansion On Main, Texarkana, Texas
Luxury Victorian bed and breakfast in historic district near courthouses and museums
The Mansion on Main was built in 1895 as a town mansion for entertaining by Rachel Godbold Moores, then a widow, who came to the area as a bride in 1855. The spacious verandah is graced by fourteen 22-foot cypress columns salvaged from the Mississippi State House replica built for the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. The home has a Texas Historic Medallion and contains unique parquet floors in foyer, hall and dining room, as well as intricately carved oak and birch archways in foyer and Victorian double parlor.
There are five guestrooms, ranging from the huge, many-windowed Penthouse/Honeymoon Suite with his and hers clawfoot tubs, to the cozy art deco/nouveau Butler's Garret, all fully furnished in genuine antique furniture and accessories. Each room has a private in-room bath with shower, tub or both, as well as desk, telephone, computer hookups, refrigerator and coffeepot. All guests have use of the icemaker and microwave oven and teas, coffees and condiments available in the wide upstairs hallway. Three queen and two double beds are available.
