Arrowhead Inn, an eight-unit B&B in Durham County, continues the saga of an historic property. In 1775, when the Lipscombes built a four room home on the Land Grant site, Native Americans walked by their door, along the Trading Path from Virginia to Georgia.
Many additions later, the handsome building has, since 1985, offered five guest rooms and common rooms, all faithful to historic architecture and amenities.
A few steps from the Manor House, a 20th-century barn now offers two additional rooms. A log cabin, situated away for privacy, boasts a sitting room, bath, fireplace, refrigerator and sleeping loft.
On four rural acres, guests enjoy a columned portico, magnolia-shaded patio, naturalized gardens, tire swings, a hammock, picnic facilities - and peace.
Because the 24-hour innkeepers (past Presidents of NCBBI) take pride in extending a personal welcome to guests, many vacationers and business travelers return again and again to sample Arrowhead's signature hospitality.
One result has been feature articles in national publications, most recently USA Today (1996) and Southern Living (1995). Also in 1996, the Durham Chamber of Commerce conferred its Micro Business Award, the country's first such accolade for smaller-than- Small-Business, in appreciation of their growing role in our economy.
