History of the Inn Built in 1897 as a second home by a prominant attorney from Hampton (SC), the home was later sold to become one of Beaufort's first boarding houses. After changing hands again in the early 1930's the home was renovated and opened as "The Beaufort Inn". After many successful years, the 1960's brought changing times and circumstances and the Inn became run down and neglected. A series of owners and attempts at renovation over the following years proved unsuccessful. In 1993, Debbie and Russell Fielden purchased the boarded-up structure and began extensive renovations and expansion with the help of the areas most skilled craftsment and artisans. With renovations completed in July 1994, the Beaufort Inn re-opened and with the help of a wonderful staff and the support of local Beaufortonians, quickly became a "Gem of the Lowcountry" winning an impressive list of awards.
